Coron to El Nido: Is the Three-Day Expedition Worth It?
5 min read
The three-day expedition is transport and experience in one: you leave Coron, spend two nights among the islands of northern Palawan and finish near El Nido. The three-day, two-night Island Escape is the most reviewed Coron-to-El Nido departure in the current selection. Its booking page sketches the route as Coron to Culion on day one, Culion to Linapacan on day two and Linapacan to El Nido on day three, with stops that change with weather and sea.
What you are buying
| Expedition | Direction | Duration | From | Reviews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Island Escape | Coron to El Nido | 3 days | €277.76 | 173 |
| Island-hopping expedition | Coron to El Nido | 3 days | €248.52 | 17 |
| Snorkelling expedition | either direction | 3 days | €292.38 | 11 |
The three do not end in the same place. The Island Escape lands at San Fernando Port and includes the transfer to El Nido town. The island-hopping expedition names Dipnay Port and a drop-off in El Nido. The snorkelling expedition uses Sibaltan port with a van transfer. Ask where you will be left and at what time before you book onward travel, and do not place a tight flight connection after the scheduled finish.
Plan the evening before as well: the Island Escape holds its pre-departure briefing at 5 pm the day before at its office in Coron, so you need to be in town a night earlier.
Where you sleep
The Island Escape’s booking page is unusually specific: traditional native huts for two adults with mattress, pillows, linen and a mosquito net, no fan or air conditioning, shared toilets and showers, minimal electricity and no Wi-Fi. The other two describe nipa huts or a beach camp. Your main luggage is stowed for the whole trip, so you live out of a small bag; the operator itself recommends a dry bag. This is a poor choice if two rustic, warm nights would spoil the trip.
The booking page of the Island Escape sets a minimum age of 16 years, and the island-hopping expedition lists people under 18 as not suitable. For a family with younger children, neither is an option.
Meals, gear and fees
All three name meals, drinking water, a crew and snorkelling gear, and all three include the island entrance fees. They differ on the environmental fees, which each municipality on the route collects separately. The island-hopping expedition includes the Culion fee but not those for Linapacan and El Nido. The snorkelling expedition includes the Linapacan eco tax but not the Coron and El Nido fees. The Island Escape requires every guest to hold valid environmental tickets for El Nido, Linapacan, Culion and Coron and offers to arrange them. Ask for the total you will pay on top before departure, and bring cash.
The Island Escape’s packing list also names sun protection, insect repellent, a power bank and toiletries. Towels are not standard: one of the three includes them, another lists them as excluded.
Expedition or ferry?
Choose the expedition when the remote islands are part of the holiday and you accept basic accommodation. Choose direct transport when you mainly need to move between the two towns, dislike group camping or have little tolerance for changing sea plans. Three days on a boat is not a faster ferry with sightseeing added.
Recommendation
For travellers who actively want the off-grid experience, choose the Island Escape from Coron to El Nido for €277.76: it has the strongest review base in this direction, and its booking page answers the sleeping and fee questions most clearly. Before booking, confirm the environmental tickets, the drop-off point and the operator’s weather policy. If two nights in a hut without a fan feel like an obstacle rather than the point, take direct transport and spend the saved nights in Coron or El Nido.
