Coron Beach Hopping: Malcapuya, Banana Island and Ditaytayan

5 min read

Swimmers in shallow turquoise water off a long white-sand beach lined with palms

Choose this route for sand and open-water island scenery, not for Coron’s limestone lakes. The Philippine tourism portal singles out the powdery shores of Malcapuya Island among Coron’s draws. The main decision is whether you want Ditaytayan’s sandbar, the familiar Malcapuya–Banana–Bulog Dos trio, or a shorter route with coastal cliffs. For most beach-focused visitors, the Malcapuya and Ditaytayan beaches-and-islands tour for €37.64 is the best fit.

Three useful routes

TourDurationFromRatingNamed stops
Beaches and islands with lunch8 hours€37.644.5 (107)Malcapuya, Ditaytayan, Coco or Waling-Waling Beach
Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos8 hours€38.744.5 (50)Malcapuya, Banana, Bulog Dos
Coastal cliffs and Malcapuya6 hours€36.404.5 (98)Banana, Malcapuya, Bulog Dos

The first route is the clear choice when Ditaytayan is non-negotiable and has the strongest review base of these three. The second keeps the classic three-island combination and allows 8 hours. The 6-hour tour suits travellers who prefer a shorter day, but less total time inevitably means less time to divide among travel, lunch, swimming and three stops.

Beach day, not lagoon day

These islands lie away from the standard Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon circuit. That is an advantage if you already have a lagoon tour booked. It is a disadvantage if this is your only boat day and Coron’s limestone scenery is your priority. Do not combine two different expectations into one booking: the route names determine what you are buying.

All three include lunch and the entrance fees. The beaches-and-islands tour starts at Lualhati Park, picks up from hotels in Coron town on request, adds snacks and rents out snorkel gear. The Banana Island route picks up within 4 km of Coron town and charges the environmental fee of PHP 200 and mask and snorkel separately. The coastal-cliffs tour picks up in downtown Coron. Sandbar access and stop order can change with tides and sea conditions.

Who should choose which

Pick Ditaytayan for the sandbar photograph and a route that also includes Malcapuya. Pick Banana Island and Bulog Dos for the established three-island circuit. Choose the shorter coastal-cliffs tour when a 6-hour day matters more than maximum beach time. Travellers who dislike long exposed boat rides should ask about the vessel and current conditions before booking.

Recommendation

For most beach-focused visitors, choose the Malcapuya and Ditaytayan beaches-and-islands tour for €37.64. It combines Malcapuya with the Ditaytayan sandbar, includes a full 8-hour day and has the strongest review base here. Choose the classic Banana Island route instead if Ditaytayan matters less than visiting Bulog Dos.
